Based in Yorkshire and with 3 little girls between us, we felt there was a gap in the market for well designed, more classically fashionable clothing that was practical yet attractive with a real British feel to it specifically for little girls. So we set about finding Fabrics that inspired us and designed a collection which both we (and the dads!) could, and would want to, put on our daughters, the aim was to create clothing that wasn’t too fussy and that would be‘ special day wear,’ as after all children want to look special all the time, not just at parties!
Clare has 16 years experience designing commercially for the high street in ladies fashion and also more recently in the Fancy Dress industry. Having worked for other people for so long, it was now finally time for Clare to take that leap of faith and pursue her dream of designing her own collection in a manner that was true to herself and her beliefs. Helen is Clare’s ideal business partner with many years of experience running her own businesses so the two of them make the perfect partnership.
Our aspiration is to become a new heritage brand for a new generation…

Marling & Evans
Our AW13/14 signature fabric is 100% wool tweed with a pretty lilac and pink thread running through it and comes from a local Yorkshire mill which has a history of cloth making going back 400 years….
Marling & Evans began life as a 16th century hand weaving workshop, but by the early 19th century had become one of the most significant English textile companies. The company logo incorporates its merchant's mark which would have been stencilled onto cloth bales before they left the original mill for export all over Europe.
During the 18th century discerning gentleman everywhere wore English broadcloth from the finest fleece then available, from Saxony. Now, 200 years later, Marling & Evans has built on its heritage by re-constructing its original English saxony qualities from even finer and softer merino fleece from Australia.
Our other key fabric, the soft jersey used to line the tweed and also used for separates is also produced in the UK. The majority of our other fabrics are from the EU and we are continually trying to source other UK fabrics where we can without losing the look, fashionability and quality of our clothing.
We are passionate about ‘Made in Britain’…..
One of the things we felt strongly about when starting our venture was that we wanted to produce clothing as locally as possible. We want to work closely with our factory so we can ensure we get exactly what we want and also have the flexibility to make changes and have a quick turnaround if we need it.
The factory that we use is just down the road so we can hop in the car and have a chat with them anytime we want to, they have been established since 1993 and have a lovely team who are always ready to help us make our dreams a reality!
